Enteric-Coated Fish Oil: What the Delivery Format Means

“Enteric-coated” describes a dosage-form feature designed to delay capsule disintegration until after exposure to the stomach environment under specified conditions.

Editorial context: This page is general delivery-format education and is not a current Nutribota product page. See Research & Editorial Standards.

It Changes Delivery, Not the EPA/DHA Amount

An enteric coating does not automatically increase the amount of EPA or DHA. Those amounts still come from the Supplement Facts panel.

How It Differs From a Standard Softgel

A standard softgel and an enteric-coated dosage form can contain similar oils while using different capsule technologies. Compare both composition and delivery format separately.

Check the Actual Product Directions

Do not assume all enteric-coated products behave identically. Formulation and testing can differ by manufacturer.

Do Not Treat Coating as a Quality Certification

Enteric coating is a formulation characteristic, not proof of purity, freshness, third-party testing, or clinical effectiveness.

Useful Comparison Questions

  • What is the serving size?
  • How much EPA and DHA are provided?
  • What are the other ingredients?
  • What delivery format is used?
  • Which quality claims have separate evidence?
